Street view

There is an illusion of the park belonging to the gallery.

The skylights in the roof are designed to relect a diffused light around the exhibition space and circulation space.

the light through the courtyard interests the costomers.
In the half way of the journey, people can suddenly see the amazing view of the courtyard and the park.

ground level entrance with light filter through a series of slices. Shafts of light suggest the familiar broken sunlight of the trees in the park, it is created vividly in the late afternoon.

Living area and office are underneath, on the ground floor.

The circulation in my gallery is very simple, a staircase links with the exhibition spaces continued with a ramp to the park. I seperate the number of steps on the stair to create a rhythm of visiting different exhibition areas.

Attracting people who is walking in the park

The shape of the roof mirrors the “hill like” courtyard, skylight in both overhang and hill allows light to filter through the levels below.

PLAN
Ground Level:following the starcase to visit the private area. The first space is the office which enclose a balcony with the bedroom for the owner. Then the workshop, bathroom and kitchen are opposite of the bedroom. Considering costomers may visit the office, so the office is set beside the entrance of the ground floor. People in the office can not see other private space unless they walk around.
First Level: From the main entrance, there is a wall with a large painting behind the glass exterior attracting people who walking on the street. After a few steps, they will enter the main exhibition space, and a secondary exhibition behind it. The stair is continued with the ramp in the sculpture courtyard outside, then continued with the path in the park.

Project 2

11 AM, Edward Hopper
Narrative: A blind girl live in a house by using her other senses.
She is sitting beside the window, thinking that something terrible is going to happen today. She could feel it in her bones. It isnt just that people treate her discriminatorily. Maybe she worrys too much every morning. The only passion and warmth she can feel now is the heat from the morning sun light. being naked to desire more and feel it deeply. How can she make the first step?

The building builds up her self-confidence by emphasizing her other senses, like hearing, smelling, touching and feeling.

The half way of the modeling
without the walls, we can see the skylight indicates the circulation for the blind girl. At the moment, sun light pass through the narrow window, then heat her body to direct her to walk in the space. This is the power she wants to gain from the sun, shown in the painting.

In Class Excercizes

The drawing workshop gave me a broader knowledge about drawing tools and techniques. These will be extremely useful for my architectural study in the future.
To draw the 1:1 cup section, elevation from top and side gives an introduction of architectural drawing to me. Although it looks simple, when start measuring, drawing, it is harder than what it looks. I think this task is quite different for sketching, architectural drawing need to present the shape of the object clearly, so I really emphasize the outline of the cup, especially for the section, just leave white on the cutting place. I love simple.

For the perspective drawing, I think there are so many things can be improved. The whole image is not strong enough, artline pen is much better than pencil to draw on tracing paper to suggest a focal point for this drawing. Anyway, my idea is let the Botta House become a diving board, so there is nothing connect the end of the bridge.

Another inclass excercize is shading the shadow of the elevation by given section and plan. This work suggest us create an 3D image in our brain, also inclue the sun. The shadows provide so many information about the depth of each part of the building.

Final Drawing

Scaled plans, elevations, and sections are drawings that depict a building or an urban lanscape at a smaller size than true size.

My initial idea of the final drawing is landslip (see mock up). when I first see this building, I am inspired by the location and the bridge, and imagine when the landslip happened, everything is sliping from the mountain, people and all the animals are running , but suddenly see an red object, oh! its a bridge! which between the danger and hope, this is the main function of a home, to protect people from risk, to provide safty. I was planning to put my plans and sections on the lanscape, like objects sinking in the mud. But at the end i found it looks too big, the middle of the drawing becomes too busy so i rearrange them, let them sit quitely on my top and bottom pages.

The focal point on this drawing is the combination of the 3D drawing and 2D elevation. The elevation is used as the shadow of the 3D drawing, I think it is the most successful part. The brick of the elevation took a long long time to finish.
